Important Dates

Quarterly Testing

We will begin our quarterly assessment on Tuesday March 26. We will start with math on Tuesday and Wednesday; then finish with reading on Thursday. Students will need to count money, analyze graphs and perform subtraction with regrouping. For reading the students will need to be able to compare and contrast nonfiction texts and answer questions about nonfiction text.

Easter Egg Hunt

Our class Easter egg hunt will be on Thursday March 28 before spring break. We do not have a party. We need plastic eggs filled with candy or small toys. Please do not put chocolate in the eggs as the chocolate melts in the sun. Also, please tape the eggs closed so the candy will not fall out when we hide them. Thank you for your support.

Spring Break

Spring Break will start on Friday March 29. We will be out March 29-April 5. We will return to school on April 8.

SKyPAC

Thanks to the Laura Goad Turner Foundation for treating each class in Allen County to a performance at the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center. On February 19 our class and the other Purple Pod 2nd grade classes went to see Charlotte's Web.  The kids really enjoyed the story and the opportunity to visit such a nice venue. Thanks again to everyone who made the trip possible.

Making Jellyfish

 In our study of sequence in non-fiction text, the students read about jellyfish last week and this week we made our own. First they were presented with the directions and then one was modeled for them.

The result: A beautiful sea of colorful jellyfish in our hall.
What's even better? Our jellyfish don't sting.

How to Make a Jellyfish

1. First, color the jellyfish’s body outline.

2. Next, cut out the jellyfish’s body by cutting along the outside and inside lines.Throw away the inside and outside scraps

3. Then, glue the body outline to the tissue paper to complete your jellyfish’s body.

4. Last choose ribbon, streamers, or yarn (4 of each) to glue to the bottom of your jellyfish to make his tentacles. 

Swim Lessons

Today was our first day of swim lessons at the Y! Judging by the comments coming from the kids as they returned to school, everyone had a great time. "Best Day Ever!" was overhead by one child. We swim next on Wednesday. Our swim days are Monday and Wednesday. Please don't forget to send a swimsuit, a towel and a bag with your child on these days.

M&M Math!

More fun with M&Ms in 2nd Grade!

In our study of bar graphs and pictographs we sorted, grouped and graphed one of our favorite colorful candies. students chose between a bar graph or a pictograph to represent their candy, but the most fun of all was of course EATING THEM!

Quarterly Assessment in behind us!

Today we took the last section of our quarterly assessment. Each quarter we assess in reading and math over the units we have studied so far. The math is divided into two sections a calculator and non-calculator part. This assessment gives the teachers a god picture of how the students are retaining the information in each unit and also gives the students good practice for the state test they will take at the end of third grade. I felt that the students took this test much more serious than last quarter's and they continue to become better test takers. I am very impressed with the effort put forth this last week. Way to go 2nd grade!

Back in the Swing

After the craziness of the holidays we are back into routine and working toward 3rd Grade!
We have been busy in the weeks since The start of the new semester.

Yesterday was the 100th day of
School. Teachers made a 100 on the floor during morning meeting to celebrate!

You never know what your going to learn here at ACPC! We began learning about verbs this week, specifically angry ones. Not really...but we did watch the actions of some Angry Birds and make sentences using the action verbs we saw.
