Class Plate Auction
Who wouldn't want to remember their child's second grade year!? You can own a piece of this year if you're the highest bidder! Please come out and support our PTO and classroom by bidding on our classroom plate. This plate is from The Paintin' Place in Bowling Green. Each student placed their fingerprint on this plate and their initials are written beside it. Our plate features a classic American Flag theme. Fundraisers here at ACPC often benefit our school as a whole -- this one however benefits our classroom. ALL PROFITS go to our classroom for needed supplies!

Quarterly Assessment Begins Tomorrow
Tomorrow we will start the final quarterly assessment
for the year. This is a paper assessment that tests the students on the Unit
standards we have had so far this year. This is not the STAR reading or STAR
math test that we will take in April. The scores from the quarterly assessments
are used to determine your child’s progress on the actual second grade
standards. The score is on a flat scale of 100. The test is patterned after the
State KPREP that will be given in 3rd grade. I will use the results
of this assessment to help make many decisions about the rest of the year and
next year for your child. The scores that were sent home on Friday were the
results of the first and second quarterly assessments and the individual
question breakdown for the 2nd assessment we took in January. We want the scores to be 75% or higher. This
is indicated by a green color. A yellow color is 69%-74% and red is below
69%. The individual question breakdown
tells how many questions your child answered correctly and incorrectly. Red is
an incorrect answer and green is a correct answer.
As a class we scored
very well in Math and we were in the top three classes in the second grade. In reading we did not perform as well and we
scored in the bottom 3 classes. We are
looking forward to improving this on this week’s test.
The test will focus on
money, time, and geometry. Students will have to add and subtract multiple
digit numbers. The reading assessment
will focus on Main Idea and Comparing and Contrasting. It is very important for
your child to be prepared to read all of the passages in their entirety and go
back and reread to find the answers.
Please help your child
by making sure he/she has a good night’s rest each day this week. Also, please
discuss the importance of doing well on this assessment with your child. Because
of the assessment we have opted not to give homework this week. Thank you for
your continued cooperation, I will relay the results of the assessment as soon
as they are made available to me.

Important Dates

Quarterly Testing
We will begin our quarterly assessment on Tuesday March 26. We will start with math on Tuesday and Wednesday; then finish with reading on Thursday. Students will need to count money, analyze graphs and perform subtraction with regrouping. For reading the students will need to be able to compare and contrast nonfiction texts and answer questions about nonfiction text.
Easter Egg Hunt
Our class Easter egg hunt will be on Thursday March 28 before spring break. We do not have a
party. We need plastic eggs filled with candy or small toys. Please do not put
chocolate in the eggs as the chocolate melts in the sun. Also, please tape the
eggs closed so the candy will not fall out when we hide them. Thank you for
your support.
Spring Break
Spring Break will start on Friday March 29. We will be out March 29-April 5. We will return to school on April 8.
SKyPAC
Thanks to the Laura Goad Turner Foundation for treating each class in Allen County to a performance at the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center. On February 19 our class and the other Purple Pod 2nd grade classes went to see Charlotte's Web. The kids really enjoyed the story and the opportunity to visit such a nice venue. Thanks again to everyone who made the trip possible.
